Its not easy trying to find music that everyone likes. A survey of about 700 students and staff at Lowell (MI) High School in November of 2005 revealed that, in some cases, students and staff seemed to like the same types of music, but not always. Take a look at the results of our survey:

The student body selected 'Rock' as their first choice, 'Country' as their second choice, 'Rap' as their third choice, Alternative Rock' as their fourth choice, and 'Hip-Hop' as their fifth choice. These genres were followed by Metal, Pop, Oldies, Techno, Mixed, Classical, Jazz, Reggae, and Funk.

Staff members also picked 'Rock' and 'Country' as their first and second choices, but picked Oldies, as their third choice, Alternative Rock as their fourth choice, and Mixed as their fifth choice. The 'top five' were followed by: Pop, Classical, Folk, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Classic Rock, Blues, Rap, Reggae, Soul, and Opera.

We try to play 'something for everyone'. At present we have about 11,600 selections from 970 CDs in our music library. Also, we have had approximately 750 vinal records donated to us. Every month we add to that total. Over the course of time, we will be adding more up-to-date music from several genres. We must play music, with 'appropriate' lyrics. If you hear anything that you feel is not 'appropriate', please let us know.

Music requests, and suggestions, can be made by calling our studio (616-987-2549), or sending us an e-mail: wlhs@lowellschools.com
