What started out as an extremely low-power (one-half watt) experimental A.M. radio station several years ago, designed to be heard only on the Lowell High School campus, has evolved to be much more.

Early on, it was suggested that we start an internet radio station. In about two weeks, with the help of Lowell Area Schools' Technology Department, we were on the 'air' - 24/7. WLHS, in its infancy, had a music media library of approximately 200 songs. Now, that same music media library contains close to 20,000 songs from over 1400 c.d.'s In addition, WLHS also has a collection of over 1300 vinyl records estimated to contain an additional 13,000 songs.

In addition to playing music, WLHS is very involved in broadcasting concerts, special events, and sports that include: football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, and softball.

All of the above has been accomplished with WLHS student-member help. Being a member of the WLHS Radio Club is strictly voluntary. Events that students 'cover' are normally held on weekday nights, and weekends. Students do not receive academic credit for their participation. To be, and remain, an active member, students must commit to helping out with a scheduled event at least once every three weeks. Approximately twenty students share in the 125 events scheduled every year.
